Some of the saddest phone calls we get here at Consumers for Dental Choice are from mothers and fathers whose young sons and daughters have received amalgam – and it wasn’t until afterward that their parents learned it contained mercury. They echo the concerns raised by FDA’s dental amalgam rule, which says:
“The developing neurological systems in fetuses and young children may be more sensitive to the neurotoxic effects of mercury vapor.”
This is why so many parents support mercury-free dentistry – and the work of Consumers for Dental Choice. Consumers for Dental Choice helps parents to stand up for their children’s right to mercury-free dentistry, like when we:
- Organized the successful campaign that led to the European Union adopting a regulation banning amalgam use for children under age 15, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers beginning 1 July 2018.
- Co-sponsored a workshop with United Nations Environment dedicated to discussing the end of amalgam use in “women, children and, through them, future generations.”
- Announced our new initiative "Make Dental Amalgam History!," a step-by-step campaign to get an amalgam phase-out written into the Minamata Convention, starting with children.
- Launched a petition calling for FDA to ban mercury fillings in these vulnerable populations like the European Union did.
With your support, we can make sure the next generation never has to deal with mercury dental fillings!
